Good day to all of the Clan MacThomas.

we had a Big Thom Gathering this weekend past for the 60th birthday of my Uncle Carl - Father to Leon.
Here we discussed and learned where we came from a bit more.
Good to be here

Great Site!!! My grandfather was a Comey and I’ve long known my family decended from David Comee who came to America in the mid 1600’s. Today I was lucky enough to stumble upon your web site about the McCombie Clan and especially John McCombie (7th chief) who I believe was David’s father. I’d love any and all information anyone would like to share.

I have just discovered that McCombes are a sept of the MacThomas clan. My father, of the same name, was born in Belleek, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, in 1881. His mother was Jane McKinley, vaguely related to the President of the U.S.

I live in Markham, a satellite community of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I have traced my family back to at least 1830 in what was Virginia at that time (West Virginia now). That is were the documentation appears to stop. Will continue to search!

Hi all; An interesting note about spelling... My sister and I have been doing a great deal of work on tracing our roots back to Scotland and tonight have found out one very important bit of info that has changed everything (And for those who are also searching for information, something to think about). Back in 1795, the Canadian land registry made an error in the spelling of our last name, changing it from Thomson to Thompson (and for over 200 years, the family in Canada has been using Thompson) So, if anyone is looking for information about 3 brothers from Hawick; Archibald, John and James (who settled in the Niagara area of Ontario around 1795) look for "Thompson" . And the great thing is in just a few minutes we found the link we needed back to Scotland. Everything is opening up and we now know where we came from!

It was fun to learn more about my heritage. To know which clan I am from. My grandfather and great grandparents came to the states in the early 1900, from Dundee. Thank you for this web site.

I just attended my first clan Gathering in Scotland and I absolutely loved it. It has been the best weekend of my life (oh which became 26 on the second last day of the gathering)

There was the chance to do golf, archery (weather permitting) and Clay Shooting ( I won this beginners luck i believe)- then there was also Ceilidh (Scottish country dancing) which we were all given instructions on and it was really easy and enjoyed by everyone - from ages 10 - 70.

The people and connections that I made from this are all over the world, and I will never forget them. They all feel like family now and in such a short time.

I can’t wait 3 years until the next international gathering at GlenShee 2014

I am relative by great grandparents of the McComb family, my fathers mother was a McComb. I was wondering how I should go about getting information from someone on how I could find or trace this geneology? Thank You in advance for any assistance.

I only today saw that my question and an answer (I received the answer by e-nail a while back already) was posted in the genealogy section of this page. Thank you for helping me even though I do not have membership on this site as yet. The information on how and what to do was bery helpfull. I even traced back my part of the family to somewhere in Prussia. From there I think they fell out of the sky or something because I cant find anything more.

Just to say thanks,

It was great to discover Clan MacThomas website today and find that it is possible to locate the origin of our people to an exact spot at the edge of the Cairngorm National Park in the highlands of Scotland. The ski resort is a place my wife and I have often stopped when travelling between Aberdeen and Killin. Amazing!

Greetings all.

I’m 23 years old, born and raised in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. I’d like to know more about my family history and was wondering if I was connected to the MacThomas Clan. I know the Thom name has been in Canada for years, as I think I am the 6th Thom generation in Canada. I believe our Thom ancestors came from the Aberdeen/Glasgow area but I’m not to sure. Any help would be awesome.

All the Jolly!

JT

Hi to all. As yet I have not established without a doubt if I am part of the MacThomas puzzle or not. I would be great to finally be certain of this as I am very interested in the history of my family and who fits in where and how. Enjoy your day and hope to hear from you guys soon.

Gary Cumbie
Can you help me? My great-great-great-great grandfather, Leander (or Lee Andrew) Cumbie was, we believe, born in Scotland, about 1758. By 1784, he was in South Carolina, married, and had my g-g-g-grandfather. Since there are no Cumbies in Scotland, my theory is that his name was originally Combie, and got changed when he reached the U.S. If that is so, then he may have been a descendant of Clan MacThomas. My hope is that you can help me confirm that, and perhaps find the link that will allow me to further explore my ancestry. Thanks for your help.
