Welcome to our new visitors book.

You may have noticed that the previous visitors book was getting slower and slower. Over the Christmas holiday it finally failed completely and the website for the company that operated it has also stopped working. Sadly we were unable to take a back up of all the messages before it failed.

We have reinstated the messages for which we do have a backup. If you submitted a message which we have not been able to reload will you please contact the webmaster - [email protected]. Alternatively you can use the contact form on this website.

Apologies for any inconvenience. We do hope that the new software performs better!!

Hello - our branch is from Ulster, though I’m back in England now. There are relatives in Canada (East & West), Australia, Indonesia and of course UK & Ireland. Those are just the ones I know about. Our family has been partially traced back to the 1600s, though this is not easy with the destruction of records during the "troubles" in Ireland. Feel free to contact.

We are travelling to Scotland in August, 2012, to attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and then travel around the country. While there, I hope to do some further genealogy research in an attempt to determine where my family lineage started. But my first task is to determine what Clan/Sept the ’Macomber’ name belongs to. I know MacThomas clan includes McComb, so I assume our surname is derived from them. If anyone can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated.

Terrific website, full of interesting information. I’ve become interested in genealogy over the past year. I’ve been able to trace my McCombs line back almost 200 years, using U.S. census records. However, I’m stuck and have been unable to go any further and link my family back to Scotland. I know that in the late 1700s my family was in Pennsylvania, where there were hundreds of "clansmen" living in and around Washington and Lancaster counties. (There are actually too many to sort out.) The spelling of my family name at this time was probably "McComb," and we somehow acquired an ’s’ to the end of the name in the past 150 years. I think my great-grandfather also fought in the American Revolution, but have been unable to document this. Through one of my earliest great-grandmothers I’m also related to a very important general from the American Revolution with close ties to George Washington and other revolutionary leaders. I’d like to correspond with anyone who has McCombs in their family tree, especially if they lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Iowa.

Hello, I reside in Manitoba, Canada. I have spent many years trying to discover what happened. I have had a very strong yearning to discover where we came from and who we are. Your site has fulfilled this need and has given me an understanding as to what has transpired. My part of the family had very little history as there was no one to pass on any information to my grandfather-Joseph McComb. His mother died in chilbirth at Dumbarton and his father immediately emigrated to Canada. We knew very little, even spelled the name wrong. We now know that our part of the family was in northern Ireland. Thanks.

I’ve been in search for my dads Fathers family. My grandfather never spoke much of his family history, possibly they came to the U.S. before the 1770s (not sure who and where from) and settled in Pennsylvania. I know all the McComb’s in my family, would love to find out our place of origin. Thanks for putting this site up. And hello to all my newly discovered extended family. ;)

It is unfortunate that the US/Canada Scholarship programme did not receive any entries for 2011-12. One can only surmise that a lack of advertising or promotion was responsible for the dismal outcome.

Great site was researching last name and stumbled across your site just found out my great great grandfather carried the last name combs and when moved to this area added the mc because there was other McCombs in the area. didn’t know if these surnames had the same origin or not.

Enjoyed the website immensely. I used to belong to the North American site but alas haven’t kept up with it. Are you guys aware of any other MacThomas branches in central Indiana?
